So, recently I've been trying to read Twilight. My aunt loaned me the books, and was like, okay, sure, whatever, Aunt Liz, even though I'd read 's comments on the series and was not enthused at ALL...Yeah, but anyway, I've read enough of it by now to get a lot of the 'in' jokes (Like 'Ooooh! Shiny silver volvo!!!' Uh yeah. So funny... Not) and understand most of the flair on facebook and all that. What I also learned about was Midnight Sun. For those of you who don't know (and God knows, there must be very few of you lucky bastards), Midnight Sun is a retelling of Twilight from Edward's point of view. However, while the author was writing the draft, it was leaked and is now plastered all over the interwebs. So everyone knows about it now. Lovely...
Anyway, the point of all this (and there actually is a point) is that my friend Sam is also reading the series, and she, our friend Kate (), and I were in the library talking about Midnight Sun the other day. I forget exactly how it came up, but something was said about how 'Well, of-freakin-course Edward and Bella could not frikkin die, seeing as Midnight Sun is just Twilight on testosterone and that there are three other books in the series...'
Well, just as a joke and since Edward is NOT the perfect man (See Who, Dr. and Meridius, Maximus Decimus) and Bella annoys the shit out of me (I am, however, obsessed with Emmett, Jasper, and Alice, as of being 3/4 through Twilight) I was all like, Dude, they SHOULD die. How awesome would that be?
So Sam goes ballistic on me (or at least, ballistic for her) and goes 'That's not funny, I love Bella!' and all that stuff, but as I was laughing, I actually started thinking about what I said for a moment.
And while doing that, I realized that it would actually be pretty awesome if they did die. From a literary perspective, that is such an amamzing twist. To have everyone believing, Oh, sure, they're not going to kick the bucket, there's three other books, and then to just go, Ooops, dead? I would have SO much respect for Stephanie Meyer if she pulled that. Even though I absolutely despise her writing style, I would put her on par with JK Rowling for that kind of twist.
But that's only my opinion. What do you guys think? Yes, no, maybe so?
